Start with your employer’s instructions

“Work physical” can mean different things for different jobs. An employer may require a particular form, screening or certification. Share those requirements with the clinic in advance instead of assuming a general examination will satisfy them. Completion depends on the examination and the requirements provided.

Prepare your paperwork

A clear set of instructions helps the team understand your visit. Bring documents rather than relying on a verbal description of the job requirement.

• The employer’s examination form and any written instructions.
• Your photo ID, medication list and relevant medical history.
• Glasses or contact lenses if you use them.
• The deadline and instructions for returning your completed paperwork.

Ask about additional services separately

Do not assume a work physical includes drug testing, tuberculosis testing, vaccinations, laboratory work or specialized certification. Ask which services the clinic can provide and how each is priced. DOT examinations and other regulated occupational examinations have specific requirements; confirm availability rather than treating a general work physical as equivalent.
